Research Interests

I have 40 years of experience and expertise working with and for people with disabilities at the local, national and international levels. My research interests include disability histories, accessibility and inclusion in Schools of Social Work in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, violence toward women as a cause of disability.

Accessibility

I have been involved in disability rights organizing since 1984 and since that time my advocacy work has attempted to address issues of accessibility and inclusion. I am a founding member of the Ottawa Community Independent Living Centre, a founding member of the Persons with Disabilities Caucus of the Canadian Association for Social Work Education, a founding member of the Canadian Disability Studies Association, a founding member of Committee On Disability and Abuse of Crime Prevention Ottawa. I am a member of the City of Ottawa Accessibility Advisory Committee. My perspectives on disability inclusion and accessibility is linked to this advocacy work and community organizing and my theoretical framework is very much linked to a social- political model of disability.
