The Sprott School of Business Centre for Information Technology, Organizations and People (CITOP) and Institute of African Studies invite you to a talk entitled “Egypt 2.0: The Use of Information and Communications Technologies to Empower People and Introduce Change” on Monday January 21, 2013 from 2:30-4:00 p.m. in Dunton Tower 701 with Dr. Sherif Kamel (Dean, School of Business, American University in Cairo).

Dr. Kamel will provide some first-hand insights into the Egyptian revolution and the role played by the use of information and communication technologies in shaping the events that took place.

Sherif H Kamel is founding dean of the School of Business at the American University in Cairo and professor of management information systems. He has a varied experience as an academic leader investing in human capital, building and managing executive development institutions addressing issues such as management development, entrepreneurship, innovation and leadership. Before joining the university, he was director of the Regional IT Institute (1992-2001) and managed the training department of the Cabinet of Egypt Information and Decision Support Centre (1987-1992). Kamel holds a PhD in Information Systems from London School of Economics and Political Science; an MBA and a BA in Business Administration from the American University in Cairo. His research and teaching interests include management of information technology, information technology transfer to developing nations, electronic business and decision support systems, his work is broadly published in IS and mana! gement journals. He is the editor of E-Strategies for Technological Diffusion and Adoption: National ICT Approaches for Socioeconomic Development (2010), Electronic Business in Developing Countries: Challenges and Opportunities (2005) and Managing Globally with Information Technology (2003). Kamel is an Eisenhower Fellow (2005) and was member of the Eisenhower Fellowships Alumni Advisory Council (2008-2011). He is a member of the World Bank Knowledge Advisory Commission. He is board member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt, the Egyptian American Enterprise Fund and the Association of African Business Schools. He is a member of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs. Kamel is a founding member of the Internet Society of Egypt and Egypt Vision 2030 Foundation and was Chairman of the Chevening Association in Egypt (2004-2009). Kamel is an advocate of diversity, empowerment, and inclusion.
