Laura Stovel
Laura Stovel teaches Peace and Conflict Studies and International Development in the Global Studies Department at Wilfred Laurier University. As a former instructor in the Political Science and Sociology and Anthropology Departments at Carleton, and as a former member of the African Studies Committee she maintains an active interest in the success of the Institute of African Studies. Her PhD research in Sociology at Simon Fraser University examined reconciliation and trust-building processes after the civil war in Sierra Leone. Her MA research in Educational Studies at the University of British Columbia examined NGO education programs that challenged ethnic chauvinisms in Bosnia and Croatia. Her research interests include post-war transitions, truth commissions and transitional justice, restorative justice after mass violence, chauvinisms and war, and gender in post-war transitions. She is also increasingly interested in researching and teaching in the area of international development, especially around development and innovation.
