Obijiofor Aginam, PhD; is Assistant Professor in the Department of Law where he teaches a range of courses · public international law, global governance and human rights, environmental justice and the law of international institutions. His research interests cut across globalization and global governance of infectious diseases, environmental justice and multinational oil corporations in the third world, south-north relations, law and development, sustainable conservation of ecological and biodiversity resources by local communities, and third world approaches to international law (TWAIL). Obi is lawyer originally from Nigeria. He practiced human rights and environmental law in Nigeria 1993-1996 (during the dictatorship of General Sani Abacha) and worked for the law firm of OLISA AGBAKOBA & associates that defended KEN. SARO WIWA, the environmental/minority rights activist hanged by the Abacha dictatorship in 1995. He also consulted widely for Nigerian civil society organizations on human rights and environmental rights including the Civil Liberties Organization, Shelter Rights Initiative and Environmental Rights Action. He has published articles in the areas of global governance of public health in a divided world. He has also presented papers on the G8 and NEPAD, third world approaches to sustainable development, globalization of infectious diseases, and African perspectives on human rights.
