Dr. Ata Khan is an expert on sustainable and intelligent transportation systems and the director of the Transportation Research Centre, housed in the department of civil and environmental engineering at Carleton University. Recently, he co-led a national team that used “smart” technology to simulate the driving experience in cars in order to research safer and more efficient transportation. Follow up studies are planned on ‘intelligent driving’ involving cars and transit for enhancing safety, efficiency and reducing environmental impacts.
Professor in Transportation Engineering, Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Interests: modelling of roadway alignments; interaction of highway infrastructure and connected, autonomous vehicles; effects of driver perception and behaviour; reducing collision risk; design consistency & traffic safety; probabilistic highway design.
Associate Professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering. Interests: modelling of intelligent, sustainable and non-motorized modes of transportation; road safety analysis. analysis of intelligent transporation systems (focus on freight).
Professor Emeritus, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Interests: characterization & modelling of mobile source emissions; environmental performance & life-cycle analysis of alternative fuels & vehicles.
