Belal completed his Bachelor of Applied Science in Biomedical Mechanical Engineering from Carleton University in the spring of 2019. The following fall, he was brought on to the CABER team to start his masters research on the quantification of uncertainty of moisture measurements in building materials.

The decision to broaden directions and pursue the field of building science stemmed from his general interest in heat and mass transfer, energy performance, sustainable building practices, as well as a focus on experimental procedures over simulation testing.

Using his background, Belal is establishing a process to effectively quantify the level of confidence regarding the relationship between electrical resistance and moisture in common building materials. Specifically, wood materials such as Oriented Strand Board and plywood are in focus to determine their effect on the overall building envelope performance.
