Role of Chancellor

The Chancellor is the ceremonial head of Carleton University and a key ambassador for its mission and values. As the presiding official at all convocation ceremonies, the Chancellor confers degrees and represents the aspirations of students, faculty, alumni and supporters. Beyond ceremonial duties, the Chancellor plays an active role in promoting the university’s interests, supporting fundraising and philanthropic initiatives, and strengthening connections with the broader community. As an ex officio member of the Board of Governors, the Chancellor also contributes to Carleton’s governance and strategic direction.
