Sabbatical year, 1969 – 1970 Institut fur Heisse Chemie, Karlsruhe, Germany Family Genealogy The Wiles Family starts out in Kleinlinden, near Giessen, Germany, with the earliest identifiable person being Andreas Weigel, born 1510. He was married to Anna Seipp. The family name changed variously through Weygell, until Johann Friedrich Weil was born in 1724, an illegitimate son of Johann Caspar Weigel and Anna Maria Jung. He came to Canada (Halifax) on the Ann, in the summer of 1750, and moved to Lunenburg in 1753. Joshua Enos Wile moved to Truro, Nova Scotia in the mid nineteenth century, and then all but James Albert Wiles move further to the U.S.A. His son was Neil Douglas Wiles, my immediate father. Other branches of the family are McKeen, Vaughan, and Boehner, all of whom are accurately traced at least back to about 1750. Details are available to anyone on request.
