CU75 Homecoming Events Unite the Carleton Community Community engagement was at an all-time high as Carleton University hosted an expanded edition of its Throwback homecoming celebration from September 12-17, 2017, including a number of special CU75 events to highlight the final stretch of the university’s 75th anniversary. As part of the weeklong program of events, the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering invited its alumni back to campus to celebrate 35 years of the Computer Systems Engineering program at Carleton. Established in 1982, the program’s launch marked the beginning of a new era for the university – one that would transport Carleton towards new frontiers in technological research and innovation. While the celebration provided the chance for current and former faculty members to reconnect with alumni, the many VIPs in attendance – including past and present chairs, deans and presidents – transformed the evening into the perfect forum to honour individuals who have helped to make the program an overwhelming success. On September 12, the Faculty of Engineering and Design also hosted its first-ever Engineering Alumni Night in Kanata North, providing members of the Carleton community located within the well-known technology hub with a unique opportunity to celebrate their connections to the university and engage with the Faculty in their own backyard. As Carleton’s homecoming celebration began to draw to a close, the university’s alumni association invited all to attend its signature event, titled “Great Grads, Good Deeds: We’re Here for Good.” The September 16 reception featured short, dynamic presentations by a roster of inspiring alumni and special guests, including engineering alumnus Jingming Li (MEng/83), an entrepreneur, advisor and investor who has been involved with numerous leading companies such as Alibaba and Alipay. In recognizing the successes and contributions of its graduates, the event served as an opportunity to reflect upon Carleton’s longstanding tradition of service and commitment to the community that has made our city, nation and world a better place. Thank you to all who supported and attended these events, in addition to the many other events held over the course of the CU75 celebration. Our alumni have always been an integral part of the Carleton story and we hope you will continue to engage with your alma mater throughout the coming years.
