As years continue to pass since I graduated from Carleton, I long to return to the English Department because of the incredible experience I had. In reflecting on my studies, the main factors that I believe contributed to my amazing experience were the people, the structure, and the subject matter.

The professors I had the honour of studying with were passionate, knowledgeable, unique, and truly invested in what and whom they were teaching. As a result of the class sizes, students truly have the opportunity to get to know their professors, interact with them regularly, and receive personalized feedback. The professors’ interest in their subject matter spills into their teaching and creates an excitement and willingness to share their knowledge and support their students’ success.

Throughout my studies, the immeasurable quality of the professors’ was enhanced by the structure of lectures and seminars, which allowed for in-depth analysis of literary works and discussion. The structure of courses offered by Carleton’s English Department provides students with the opportunity to experience a variety of learning and teaching methods throughout their educational career.
