Hello everyone,

We hope the term is off to a good start and that you’re enjoying your classes and workshops!

Tuition payment reminder

Fall fees were due August 25th (unless you had an OSAP deferral). You can pay tuition in two installments: Fall and Winter. Only fall fees are due now.

Please note that failure to pay your fees will not cancel your registration or fees. To withdraw from ESP, you must contact us at esp@carleton.ca or 613-520-2804.

  • To make sure you’ve paid, login to Carleton Central. Under the Registration menu > Student Accounts, click on “Amount to pay”. Make sure your “Term Balance” for Fall 2023 = $0.00.

If you are having difficulty navigating an OSAP application or arranging funds, please reach out to us for support: esp.advising@carleton.ca. We’re here to help!

Apply for a Carleton bursary: deadline October 31

A bursary is a financial award (free money!) that is granted on the basis of financial need, not grades (which makes them different from scholarships). Unlike loans, bursaries do not have to be repaid.  The bursary program exists to help (but not replace) your main sources of funding such as OSAP or other loans/grants/etc. The deadline for bursary applications this year is October 31st.

Apply online through Carleton Central. See the application instructions here.

Academic coaches can help you with your application! Book here.

How to spot a phishing attack

You may find your Carleton email periodically receives messages with job offers, warnings about security breaches and unsolicited (frequently too-good-to-be-true) offers. These are often phishing attacks.

  • Phishing attacks are attempts to get you to disclose personal information.

Our ITS services try to filter these messages and have offered tips on how to spot a phishing attack. Here are some tips on spotting them:

  • If an email appears to come from someone at the University, but has an [External Email] tag, it may be a phishing message. Be extra careful on mobile devices where it may not show the email address.
  • The subject line is in all caps.
  • If an email appears to be sent to a long list of people and not just to you.
  • If the email uses a generic greeting, or uses your email address in the greeting. e.g. Dear user, or Dear abc@carleton.ca
  • The message asks you to send money, Bitcoin, gift cards, cheques, etc.
  • Asks you for your password or directs you to a website asking for your password (or personal information).
  • There is a call for immediate action – “download this now”, “confirm your email identity now” or “click on the link below”.
  • Tries to invoke an emotional response to get you to take an action without thinking.
  • There are spelling or grammatical errors in the email.

Register for accommodations (disability supports)

If you have a physical or learning disability, or if you have a mental or physical illness and would benefit from accommodations, please register with our Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities. They will coordinate any needed accommodations across all your classes and workshops.
