The European Union Centre of Excellence at Dalhousie University presents a talk on EU Maritime Policy, details below:

Title: Governing the oceans in an European Way: Integrated Maritime Policy of the EU

Date: Wednesday, October 28, 2015

Time: 12.30 – 2pm

Location: Lord Dalhousie Room, Henry Hicks Building, Dalhousie University

Speaker: Timo Koivurova, Director of the Northern Institute for Environmental and Minority Law, University of Lapland

Integrated maritime policy (IMP) was a culmination in 2007 of many isolated efforts within the EU to finally govern the oceans from the EU perspective in a holistic manner. This presentation will identify first why the EU has become increasingly interested in governing the oceans that lie within the jurisdiction of its Member States. The idea is to look into the past and find out reasons why the IMP came into being and how it guides ocean governance internally and across the world’s oceans.
