Call for Papers for the Junior Scholars Workshop “The political, economic, legal and historical implications of the multiple crises in the EU”. University of Victoria (Victoria, BC Canada) on Thursday, February 23, 2017. Sponsored by the Canada-Europe Transatlantic Dialogue (CETD).
The organizers of this one-day workshop invite presentations of papers that are in various stages of development from junior scholars on themes broadly related to the recent crises (financial, refugee, Brexit) affecting the legitimacy of the EU. Senior EU scholars will attend the workshop as discussants.
Paper proposals of maximum 300 words, addressing the above-mentioned theme (broadly defined) are invited for submission. Proposals should be simultaneously sent to Amy Verdun (averdun@uvic.ca) and Valerie D’Erman (vjderman@uvic.ca) no later than 15 November 2016 (“Junior Call for Papers 23 Feb 2017 – crises in the EU”).
Please note that there will be no registration fees for this workshop. Applications from PhD students, postdoctoral fellows, and early career researchers are encouraged. Some travel funds are available; please indicate in your proposal whether you would like to be considered for a travel grant. To be considered for funding, applicants must be either affiliated with a Canadian institution, or be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident at a non-Canadian institution. Please indicate your status in your application.
This workshop will precede a two-day conference (held at UVic on Feb. 24-25, 2017), entitled “The Creation of New EU Institutions in Response to the Euro Area Crisis”. The contributors will examine the creation of EU institutions in response to the financial crisis and the euro crisis, focusing on the Banking Union, the European Financial Stability Facility, the Capital Markets Union, and the European Semester. Junior scholars are welcome to stay for this second conference, but any additional costs would need to be incurred by delegates themselves.
