Description: Europe’s resilience has been severely tested in recent years. The financial crisis in Greece and the influx of refugees and migrants from Middle East, Africa, and Asia in particular have presented enormous challenges to European institutions as member states struggle, and very often fail, to reach a workable consensus respecting appropriate and effective responses. Serious doubts have arisen regarding the viability of both the Euro and the Schengen zone, and further questions are raised about the viability of the European project for an ever closer union in the face of threats to these and other cornerstones of the project.
