Mikayla Paton is a settler of Italian and Scottish descent working to help amplify Indigenous voices across Turtle Island. A Carleton University alum, receiving her B.A. in Law; Mikayla worked to support claimants applying for the Federal Indian Day Schools Class Action after she graduated. She holds a certificate in Arbitration and Alternate Dispute Resolution, specializing in Indigenous community-directed processes. She is a member of the ADR Institute of Ontario as well as the national affiliate.
In addition to working in the Office of Indigenous Teaching, Learning and Research, she is a Project Coordinator for the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne assisting the Department of Health and more specifically Dr. Ojistoh Kahnawahere Horn.
Mikayla has a variety of certifications in Indigenous specific pedagogies and always has her nose in a book. She works closely with Dr. Kahente Horn-Miller, the Ānako Indigenous Research Institute and other members of Carleton’s Indigenous community on implementing the Kinàmàgawin Report’s 41 Calls to Action.
