Emergency Response Applications
An IoT platform for disaster management using UAVs can improve the effectiveness of emergency response in disaster areas, ultimately saving precious human lives. UAVs can be launched strategically and automatically during search and rescue (SAR) operations. UAVs will be providing communication backbone for the ground IoT network and together they can perform safety tasks in SAR operations. In addition, UAVs can also be equipped with remotely controllable IoT devices. A large amount of useful data can be collected from ground IoT network and from the IoT devices mounted on UAVs, which can be analyzed to generate useful information in disaster scenarios. Developing an IoT platform for disaster management using UAVs has several real challenges such as self-organized maintenance, communication between UAVs, communication of UAVs with ground IoT network, designing an architecture to connect heterogeneous devices, energy efficiency to operate the
UAVs along with the connected devices, placement and routing of UAVs for maximum coverage, safety issues by controlled operation of UAVs in civilian airspace, network security and robustness, etc.
