The services offered by the ITS Project Management Office are focused on providing professional project management expertise for IT projects.  To fulfill this objective, project managers undergo training and keep up with trends in the industry to continually improve their craft.  Although our focus is on IT initiatives, the approach we take is not specific to information technology.  In fact, our expertise can be applied in small and large change initiatives – in any environment!

Many of you have contacted us about improving project management skills and mindsets in their departments.  We are excited to announce that, coming soon, we will be offering a introductory course to Carleton staff, faculty and management called De-mystifying Project Management.  This course will cover the breadth of what project management is all about, increase your understanding of the terms and processes used, and give you some tools to apply in the projects that you are managing in your department.  The course will focus on the practical application of the ten knowledge areas of project management and allow you to apply your learning through the use of simple exercises.

We are all project managers.  If you’ve ever moved houses, built a website, planned a wedding or put together a policy document – you’ve applied project management skills.  We’d like to offer you a view of project management that might make you think of items you hadn’t thought about in your previous projects in order to strive at “doing things right and doing the right things”.

Keep an eye out for the launch in late fall (2014) on Today@Carleton and on the Learning and Professional Development calendar.
