The ISSC (Information Systems Steering Committee) is asking you to submit Proposals for information systems (IS) initiatives for your area. We have revised the submission process slightly this year to include the participation of three new computing committees established as part of the University’s IT Strategic Plan. These Committees will assume a major role in the selection of IS projects to be considered by the ISSC. The goal is to advance a selection of Proposals to the Project Charter stage and then to execution, balancing the resources available with the priorities of the University. The new Committees are:
- Administrative Computing Committee (ACC) – Suzanne Blanchard, Chair
- Research Computing Committee (RCC) – Florence Dzierszinski, Chair
- Teaching and Learning Computing Committee (TLCC) – Joy Mighty, Chair
Please circulate this message within your Resource Planning Centre (RPC) and submit the Proposals as outlined in the following revised process:
- Proposals may be prepared by any staff member along with managers – a template is attached with instructions on the type of information that is required. The Project Management Office is available to provide assistance with completing Proposals.
- Proposals should be prioritized as “Mandatory, High, Medium, Low” with approval from the Chair.
- Chair submits Proposals to the appropriate computing committee who will review and select those to be presented to the ISSC.
- At the Proposal Review meeting, ISSC assigns a ranking in order of priority and approves those initiatives that will potentially be implemented.
Notes:
- Not all Proposals will necessarily qualify as a formal “project” that must follow a prescribed methodology. For example, it may be discovered that the work could be implemented internally by the department, integrated with another initiative, or it may be completed through a System Change Request (SCR).
- Approved Proposals are given the go-ahead to prepare Project Charters (a Charter defines the project scope, and provides a more accurate estimation of funding, resources, timeline, etc.), but it is not guaranteed that the Charter itself will be approved.
- The completed Proposal should not be longer than the double-sided template provided (the appropriate document for detailed project definition is the Project Charter).
- The attached Proposal template is also on the PMO website at http://www.carleton.ca/its/project-office/tools-and-templates/ and click on Project Proposal Template.
Please submit your Proposals to one of the Computing Committees (ACC, RCC, TLCC) no later than Friday, February 27. If you have any questions, contact Susan Nesrallah, ISSC Secretary, at x3711.
