What is this service?

This service provides voice communications: desk phone, voicemail, conference speakerphones, and billing plans (local, long distance, and international).

How do I obtain this service?

This service is normally provided through the Faculty and Staff Onboarding service.  If you require additional phone service, you or your Departmental Administrator may submit a request, as below.


Phone services incur ongoing monthly costs which must be approved by your Department Chair, Director, or Manager.

What is included?

  • Standard Features:
    • Provisioning, configuration and support of dedicated faculty and staff phone lines and desk phones to make and receive interoffice, local, long distance, and international voice calls
    • Internal call transfer, speakerphone, call history, and voicemail notification
    • Interoffice voice calling capability using 4 digit phone extensions
    • Voicemail
    • Initiate conference calls with up to 7 additional participants using a desk phone
    • Off-site access to voice mail box
    • Technical support and fulfillment of service requests
    • Monthly billing reporting on individual and group/organizational call costs and accounting including one-time and recurring monthly charges
  • Non-Standard Services:
    • Caller ID capability for identifying incoming callers for all VoIP telephones
    • Calling card procurement and management
    • Advanced voicemail service
    • Procurement of additional voice hardware and accessories, such as headsets and conference phones
    • Configuration of advanced call routing features (i.e. Automatic Call Distribution System)
    • Provisioning and management of Toll-free numbers for Carleton’s business functions and programs
    • Access to voice and audio/video web conferencing services
    • Voice menu services for business functions/programs
    • Work from home (Teleworker) service
    • Automatic emailing of voicemail as an attachment
