Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) continues to develop a Learning Analytics project using D2L Brightspace with Performance Plus analytics. This project has transformative potential to foster human-centered learning and enhance student success. Our goal is to build a culture where data is used to support students and provide positive interventions for improved outcomes.
As part of the larger project are a few key initiatives: Carleton’s Learning Analytics for Student Success (CLASS) community of practice, the Future Learning Innovation Fellows projects, and one-on-one consultations with educators.
CLASS
CLASS (Carleton’s Learning Analytics for Student Success) is a new Community of Practice (CoP), focused on using learning analytics to support student’s academic success. CLASS’ mission is to bring together educators, researchers, administrators, and other stakeholders passionate about leveraging data-driven insights to enhance the educational experience of students.
The CLASS CoP continues to meet to and establish common practices among educators at Carleton. This space has generated user stories that have helped to guide data use and offer unique insight into how LA can be used to foster and promote durable learning. These narratives underscore the human aspect of digital learning, highlighting the potential of Learning Analytics to bridge the gap between technology and learner engagement. We have also collaborated to establish consistent course design practices within Brightspace. This consistency optimizes how Learning Analytics can be used to inform and enhance teaching and learning strategies.
Future Learning Innovation Fellowship
The Future Learning Innovation Fellowship provides funding and support for instructors and academic units interested in incorporating new or innovative technologies to solve defined teaching and learning problems or challenges (e.g. student engagement, student success). The Innovation Fellows’ projects help to navigate the dynamic interplay between educators, learners, and technology.
Additional Resources
Interested in using analytics in your own context to support learner success and to promote a digitally empowered learning community? We look forward to fostering a rich discussion about the challenges and opportunities of integrating LA into the fabric of digital education with you.
