Applicants must:

  • Hold an honours baccalaureate or equivalent with at least high honours standing
  • Show evidence of commitment to and aptitude for political management through prior involvement in party orcampus politics, grassroots organization, political advocacy, or similar experience
  • Submit complete transcripts, two letters of reference, a statement of interest and a sample of their academic work 

The statement of interest should be a 250-500 word account of why applicants wish to pursue the degree, what they hope to gain from it and where they hope it will take them, to ensure that the applicant’s interests align with what the program offers.

 Language Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate a high level of fluency in English. Those who intend to work in Canadian federal politics should also be conversant in French. If an applicant’s first language is not English, or if the applicant did not complete undergraduate studies at an English-speaking university, admission will be contingent on demonstrating fluency in English via any one of the criteria outlined at: carleton.ca/graduate/international.

Applications and Deadlines

Applications have two components: an online form and paper document submissions. Please visit gsapplications.carleton.ca/ to complete the online portion. Once the online form is completed and the application fee paid, print out the application summary and submit it withall supplementary paper documentation listed below. The application deadline is March 1.

Financial Assistance

As the Master of Political Management is an intensive professional undertaking in which students are expected to commit themselves fully to their studies, the program will not provide financial support in the form of teaching assistantships. Instead, all full-time students admitted to the program will be automatically considered for entrance scholarships.
