On January 23, 2018, the Clayton H. Riddell Graduate Program in Political Management sponsored the 2018 Riddell Forum. The event which was titled, “Canada’s Immigration Policy in an Era of Political Polarization”, featured a panel discussion with a group of leading experts in the field.

Jennifer Ditchburn, editor-in-chief of Policy Options magazine, moderated the panel, which features Rachel Curran, senior associate at Harper & Associates, Nicholas Keung, immigration reporter at the Toronto Star, Jamil Jivani, visiting professor at Osgoode Hall Law School, and Andrew Griffith, fellow at the Canadian Global Affairs Institute and the Environics Institute.

The panel discussed questions like:

  • How do we have a productive public debate on a hot-button issue like immigration?
  • Why has Canada been more successful than many other countries in dealing with immigration policy?
  • How do we avoid the problems that have plagued immigration policy elsewhere?
