Ryan Nearing is a communications professional with extensive experience in public affairs, political strategy, and stakeholder engagement. Based in Halifax, he currently serves as the Senior Communications Advisor to Mayor Andy Fillmore, where he leads strategic communications, media relations, and issues management efforts.
Prior to this role, Ryan held communications and public affairs positions for both the Halifax Regional Municipality and the Office of the Minister of Small Business, Export Promotions, and International Trade. He has served as a manager and advisor on multiple provincial and federal campaigns, and teaches spin.
Carleton’s MPM program prepared me to serve as a strong community advocate. It not only provided the essential technical and practical skills to serve in the political space, but also the in-depth knowledge required for advocacy and community organizing. Above all, it introduced me to an incredible faculty and alumni network – with individuals from all political backgrounds, working across Canada, in a variety of sectors.
