Director of Communications for Mayor Ken Sim, City of Vancouver

Degrees:MPM/20

Zoe is the Director of Communications for Mayor Ken Sim at the City of Vancouver, where she drives the Mayor’s communications strategy, media relations, and public engagement on key city initiatives.

Before relocating to British Columbia in late 2021, Zoe worked as a Research Support Officer at the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS), where she developed communication materials highlighting the economic benefits of environmental conservation. She later served as a Communications Advisor to Ontario’s Minister of Labour, Monte McNaughton, managing the Minister’s digital strategy and social media presence during a time of significant policy changes.

Since moving to B.C., and prior to joining the Mayor’s Office in 2023, Zoe has taken on several communications roles including Communications Specialist at SkilledTradesBC and Director of Communications for the BC Liberal Party. Her expertise in both provincial and municipal sectors has equipped her with the skills to turn complex policies into clear messaging, compelling narratives and engaging campaigns that resonate with diverse audiences.

The MPM program at Carleton really gave me a strong foundation in communications, strategic thinking and crisis management – all of which I use every day in my current role. The hands-on experience, mentorship from industry professionals and real-world case studies gave me the confidence to navigate the fast-paced world of politics. The program was the perfect launchpad for my career.
