As of July 1, 2025, Production Services will be limiting the types of internal events that it supports to those that are deemed essential to the university’s reputation and linked to the Strategic Integrated Plan.
Events that continue to be supported include:
- Announcements/events from the Board of Governors and Senate as well as the offices of the President, Provost and VPs
- Announcements and significant public-facing events from the Deans’ offices
- Signature academic public lectures (Herzberg, Attallah, Kesterton, etc.)
- High-profile recruitment events (on campus organized by the Undergraduate Recruitment Office and Admissions Services)
- Academic orientations for start of term
- Convocation
- Commemorative days (National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Remembrance Day, National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, etc.)
- Campus-centered activities (Service Excellence Awards Celebration, Long Service and Retiree Celebration, Appreciation Day, etc.)
Note that while these events remain within our scope, we may have limitations in terms of internal capacity (labour and equipment) that may prevent us from being able to provide support or require us to rent more equipment to cover your event at cost. Please fill out our event support intake form and if we have any concerns, we’ll let you know and work with you to find solutions.
Events that will no longer be supported include:
- Departmental events, talks, seminars, meetings, luncheons/banquets/socials
- Thesis defences (in person, hybrid and online)
- Book launches, readings
- Film screenings
- Departmental retirement events/gatherings/holiday parties
- Professional development and training sessions
- Departmental conferences not booked through Conference Services
We highly encourage you to try to book classrooms and/or departmental rooms for these types of events as technology exists in these spaces at no charge to you.
There may be questions regarding what constitutes a high-profile event, and we note that some high-profile events may originate from individual departments. If you have any questions about whether your event would be considered in scope for support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to productionservices@carleton.ca.
