Dear Members of the Carleton Community,
I am pleased to announce the establishment of a search committee for the Associate Vice-President (Teaching and Learning). The search committee, an advisory committee to the president, held its first meeting on Feb. 2, 2018. Its first task is to create a position profile and job advertisement so that the position can be advertised. The committee will begin reviewing applications in March and will continue until the appointment is completed. Ideally, the start date for the new Associate Vice-President will be in the summer of 2018.
Colleen Keenan from Odgers Berndtson Executive Search is assisting in the search. An email address carletonavptl@odgersberndtson.com has been set up and the committee invites members of the Carleton community to submit any suggestions to our search consultant regarding the challenges and opportunities that you think the AVPTL will face, and the ideal qualities and skills that you think the committee should look for in reviewing candidates for the position. She also encourages nominations. All comments received by the search committee will be treated in strictest confidence. Please note that anonymous comments will not be considered and all submissions to the search committee must respect the values of ethical and considerate behaviour and Carleton’s Human Rights Policy and Procedures. The chair of the search committee, in consultation with committee members, reserves the right not to forward comments to the committee that do not respect these values.
On behalf of the Carleton community, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Joy Mighty for the valuable contributions she has made to Carleton and to Canada’s teaching and learning community during her term as Associate Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) and for her leadership during a changing time in teaching and learning. Dr. Mighty will take administrative leave on July 1, 2018, but will return to Carleton the following year in a half-time position in the Office of the Provost as Senior Scholar for Innovation in Teaching and Learning. She will provide advice and engage in special projects that foster the scholarship and innovative practices of teaching and learning.
We will continue to update you on the progress of this search in the coming months.
Sincerely yours,
Jerry TomberlinInterim Provost and Vice-President (Academic)Chair, Associate Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) Search Committee
