To All Members of the Carleton Community:
After much reflection, Prof. André Plourde has decided to end his term as Dean of the Faculty of Public Affairs on June 30, 2020 after nine years.
André has served as the Dean of the Faculty of Public Affairs since 2011, when he joined Carleton from the University of Alberta. In 2016, he was renewed for a second term following a unanimous recommendation by the Faculty of Public Affairs Dean Review Committee based on a detailed review of his performance during his first term.
André will take administrative leave in July 2020 and will return to Carleton’s Department of Economics as a Full Professor with tenure.
On behalf of the Carleton community, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to André for his many important contributions as Dean. He is a collaborative leader who has worked tirelessly to improve the Carleton student experience. As Carleton’s most senior Dean, André has been a gracious and supportive mentor to many of his peers, including our new Deans. I am grateful that his mentorship has extended to me many times since taking on the role of Provost.
We will form an advisory search committee shortly for a new Faculty of Public Affairs Dean. We have contracted executive search firm Laverne Smith & Associates to assist us with this search. There will be an opportunity for community consultation later in the process. We will continue to keep you informed throughout the search and will provide an update when the advisory search committee has been formed.
Sincerely yours,
Jerry Tomberlin Provost and Vice-President (Academic)
