Stephen McMurtry completed his MASc in Sustainable Energy Engineering and Policy in 2013. His thesis research used optimization methods coupled to building performance simulation to determine appropriate configurations and control strategies of thermal plant systems for coupling to fuel cell micro-cogeneration devices.
After completing his MASc degree, Stephen moved to Toronto to work for Ecobee on the development of its smart WiFi enabled thermostat and in 2015 he launched a start-up company specializing in data visualization. In 2018 Stephen went to work for the Canadian Digital Service as a software developer, where he has worked on products such as GC Notify and the COVID Alert app..
