A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Masada is an ancient fortification which lies strategically placed on a plateau above the Dead Sea. Built in 30 BCE by King Herod, it became the final stronghold against the Romans in the First Jewish-Roman War. Around 72 CE the Romans laid siege to Masada and succeeded in reaching the fortress after building a large earthen ramp on its western side. Incredibly well preserved, it serves as an archaeological trove and testament to the incredible history which took place there.
