This workshop introduces the fundamentals of nonlinear system modelling, analysis, and stability, with a focus on their applications in vehicle and autonomous-driving systems. Participants will explore basic nonlinear vehicle models, equilibrium and stability concepts, and the use of Lyapunov stability theory for analyzing and designing nonlinear control systems. The workshop will conclude with practical examples demonstrating how these concepts can be applied to vehicle motion, path tracking, and autonomous-driving control.
Professor Mojtaba Ahmadi received the B.Sc. degree from the Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 1989, the M.Sc. degree from the University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran, in 1992, and the Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from McGill University, Montréal, QC, Canada, in 1998. He worked on robotic teleoperation and autonomous operation as a Postdoctoral Fellow with the École Polytechnique de Montréal from 1998 to 2000, and from 2000 to 2005, he held senior positions in different industries including Opal-RT Technologies Inc., Montréal; Quantum and Maxtor Corporations, San Jose, CA, USA; and the Institute for Aerospace Research, National Research Council Canada, Ottawa, ON, Canada. He joined the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Carleton University, Ottawa, ON, Canada, in 2005, where he is currently a Professor. He founded the Advanced Biomechatronics and Locomotion Laboratory (ABL). His current interests include rehabilitation robotics, assistive devices, human-robot interaction, design and control of mechatronic systems, autonomous vehicles, and legged robots.
