Where and when is the colloquium held?

Now in its 31st year, the Underhill Graduate Student Colloquium is held every winter semester in the Department of History at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. This year, the Colloquium will take place from Thursday, February 27th to Friday, February 28th, 2025.

Who can submit to present at the Underhill? 

The Underhill Colloquium is a graduate student-run conference spotlighting MA and PhD student work, with keynote presentations from respected historians and scholars. We welcome submissions from graduate students in all disciplines on history-related topics spanning the spectrum of faculties, methodologies, formats, and dialogues. Submission priority goes to Carleton graduate students.

What is this year’s Underhill theme? 

This year’s theme is Concentricity: Exploring the Doing of History. 

How long should proposals be?

Proposals should be ~250-300 words.

How do I submit?

When are submissions due? 

Submissions for the Underhill Colloquium 2025 is now Monday, January 6th, 2025. 

I don’t think I will submit this year, but I would love to attend – how do I register?
