Teaching Achievement Award

Sandra Robinson, School of Journalism and Communication

An Instructor in Communication, Sandra Robinson developed a data analysis platform for Communication and Media Studies student research.  The course, known as “Data Mining and Analytics” is part of the suite of professional media workshops in the revamped BCOMs program. It will provide opportunities for students to develop technical skills in media research as well as challenge them to learn how to tell interesting research stories with data, and to navigate the ethical dilemmas associated with big data.

Research Achievement Awards

Professor Andrea Chandler, Department of Political Science

For her project “Canada and Democracy Promotion in Central Europe 1945-1989,” Professor Chandler investigated the evolution of Canada’s foreign relations with East European communist countries during the Cold War. The research will illuminate the extent to which these countries were able to make foreign policy that was independent from the Soviet Union.

Professor William Walters, Department of Political Science/Department of Sociology and Anthropology

Professor Walters’ project “The Production of Secrecy” seeks to generate analytics and case studies that will enhance our understanding of political concealment. He argues that we lack an adequate framework to understand how state secrecy has changed historically and the new forms it is taking today.
