The Council of Ontario Universities, in partnership with the Government of Ontario held the Innovative Designs for Accessibility (IDeA) student competition from 2012 – 2016.  During that period, Carleton Undergraduate students won first place every year, taking two of the top three prizes four times and all three top prizes in 2013.

This spring Universities Canada with funding from the Federal Government has announced the renewal of IDeA nationally. This time the contest is open to both undergraduate and grads students.

We are seeking to engage the creative minds of Carleton undergraduate and grad students to develop innovative, cost-effective and practical solutions to accessibility-related barriers in the community.

Inspired by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, we are encouraging students to incorporate inclusive design into their assignments and address one (or several) barriers to accessibility, which are:

  • Organizational/Systemic
  • Architectural/Physical
  • Information and Communications
  • Technology
  • Attitudinal

The competition is open to all undergraduate and grad students enrolled at a publicly funded university in Canada.
