Mikaela brings a decade of experience in communications in a post-secondary environment to her role as the Accessibility Institute’s Communications and Events Coordinator. Mikaela oversees the planning and execution of all events and communications activities related to the Institute’s ongoing research projects, accessible education and training programs, and knowledge mobilization initiatives. Mikaela also supports the implementation of Carleton’s Coordinated Accessibility Strategy and the ongoing growth and work of the Canadian Accessibility Network.

Mikaela graduated from Carleton University’s Bachelor of Journalism program in 2013, with a double minor in Communication Studies and French. Before joining the Accessibility Institute in 2021, Mikaela worked as the Outreach and Communications Coordinator in Carleton’s Career Development and Co-operative Education offices, developing skills in strategic communications, writing, event promotion and planning, web administration, media and content creation, and graphic design.

Mikaela developed a strong interest in creating inclusive, accessible experiences through her work in raising awareness about Career Services’ dedicated career advising and experiential learning programs for students with disabilities, ACT and ACT to Employ, and while assisting the planning and facilitation of the Carleton University Accessible Experiential Learning (CUAEL) Project Showcase in 2018.
