INTRODUCTION TO U.S. CULTURAL STUDIES

In this course, we will explore some of the issues and approaches that have defined the field of U.S. Cultural Studies in recent years. We will read influential scholarship, as well as analyzing relevant primary sources, with an emphasis throughout on nation, empire, ethnicity, and globalization. Familiarizing ourselves with a range of methods and concepts, we will consider the different ways that scholars in the field have interpreted the relationship between culture, power, and history.
