Publication alert: Compost teas provide reduction of tomato plant disease

Charlotte Bakker (B.Sc. Biochemistry & Biotechnology/2024) and Hannah Schott (B.Sc. Biochemistry/current) had their summer 2023 research on compost teas published. They showed the effectiveness of various compost teas and characterized potential microbial factors influencing efficacy. This research was part of a larger project in the groups of Profs. Tyler Avis and Myron Smith (Institute of Biochemistry). Compost teas may help mitigate mold development on tomato plants, thereby potentially reducing food loss with an environmentally-friendly and sustainable alternative to chemical fungicides.
