Minimum required qualifications: Candidates should hold at least a PhD in Biochemistry, or related field, and demonstrate teaching competence in a relevant area, preferably at the university level. For first and second year courses priority will be given to those with experience teaching large classes.

BIOC 1500 is a first-year course that emphasizes the applied and societal dimensions of biochemistry and biotechnology and includes experiential learning activities/demonstrations. Candidates should therefore demonstrate: (1) strong ability to communicate complex biochemical concepts to non-specialist; (2) experience designing or delivering applied, hands-on, or experiential learning activities in biochemistry, or biotechnology; and (3) familiarity with current applications of biotechnology across research, health, industry, and environmental sectors. Experience connecting students to industry contexts is an asset. Applicants are encouraged to describe in their application how their teaching and professional experience meets each of these criteria. |

Salaries: Contract Instructor Salaries for Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 courses:
• Half Credit Course: $9,255
• Full Credit Course: $18,508
*Anticipated TA Support: General guidance on the estimated TA support can be found below. See posting for course specific anticipated TA support. TA support is subject to change based on enrollments and may not be finalized until the start of term:
- Class size <50 = 0 TAs
- Class size 50 to <150 = 1 TA @ 130 hours each
- Class size 150 to <250 = 2 TAs @ 130 hours each
- Class size 250 and greater = 3 TAs @ 130 hours each
Schedule: The Fall/Winter timetable will be released in late-May and is not flexible. If you have strict time constraints in your teaching availability, please indicate this in the comment section of your application.
