The Canada-Europe Transatlantic Dialogue, the Centre for European Studies (EUCE), and the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law are pleased to present an EU Competition Law Lecture with Professor Pierre Larouche, Tilburg Law School, Tilburg University, Netherlands, on “Innovative Markets in EU Competition Law: Intel, MasterCard, Google, and FRAND cases (Motorola, Samsung) – Theory, practice, and comparative perspective.”
Abstract: This lecture will review the most recent cases concerning so-called “innovative markets” under EU competition law: the Intel judgment (12 June 2014), the MasterCard judgment (11 September 2014), and the ongoing Google case, as well as the Commission decisions on Motorola and Samsung (29 April 2014). Building on the explanation of each case in its context, the lecture then compares those cases to their US counterparts before venturing a theoretical explanation for observed differences between the US and the EU.
This lecture is free and open to the public. A light luncheon will be provided and registration is required.
