About Climate Legacy
Climate Legacy is a project of The Group of 78 that aims to engage and mobilize older Canadians through their organizations in climate action through their voice, their time and their money. Our vision is that Canada move steadily and effectively towards a zero net carbon economy in the next decade through actions at municipal, provincial and federal levels. Seniors comprise a significant force in combating climate change and are often overlooked in current mobilizing efforts.
About the Position
In this role, reporting directly to Climate Legacy’s steering committee, you will be responsible for coordinating and supporting the programmes implemented by CL volunteers. You will attend steering committee meetings and maintain CL records and filing system. You will bring the Steering Committee’s attention to potential partnerships, programmes and outreach
opportunities.
You will also lead CL’s communications, and support the Communications Assistant in website, newsletter and social media outreach.
Climate Legacy is a young organization and relies on agile and flexible team members to make the work happen! This is an exciting opportunity to work in a still growing and evolving organization and develop a unique expertise in the needs of older adults looking to engage in climate action.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinating and supporting CL’s programme of outreach so that it is well implemented, supported and evaluated, and bringing any issues arising to the attention of the steering committee
- Maintaining a well-organized filing system using Box
- Monitoring the Climate Legacy email account
- Supporting webinar presentations
- Reaching out regularly to Network members (e.g. soliciting updates about work, sharing campaigns, research etc.)
- Attending CL workshops and steering committee member speaking engagements as needed
- Representing Climate Legacy at larger group meetings as needed, at the direction of the steering committee
- Engaging with advocacy and communications research to share with network, steering committee members and communications coordinator
- Supervising and assisting the Communications Assistant as needed in designing, and editing content for social media, the website and the newsletter.
Skills and Experience
- Experience in not-for-profit administration, project management, preferably 1-3 years and university degree in a relevant field.
- Passion for and awareness of climate change issues across Canada.
- Writing and communications expertise. Experience in outreach to older adults considered an asset.
- You are outgoing and unafraid to call people up, send follow up emails or initiate new connections without explicit direction.
- You are flexible and can adapt to changes in campaign direction and focus with ease.
- You listen to your colleagues and are committed to maintaining an open mind and facilitating productive dialogue.
Working Environment and Compensation
- 15 hours a week, remote with preference for those candidates based in Ottawa
- Infrequent evening or weekend work; occasional in-person events or meetings
- Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience, education and skill set.
