Climate Datathon: A great opportunity with cash prizes and an opportunity for the winners to present their findings at the Science and Information Day of the next UN Climate Summit in Egypt (COP27).

The Global Stocktake Climate Datathon is a call for open data and tools to support the Global Stocktake (GST) ahead of COP27. The goal of the Datathon is to enhance the quality of data for the Global Stocktake, enable aggregated data insights, further understanding around collective progress, ways to bridge remaining gaps, and visualize potential opportunities. Outcomes aim toward data quality, data set interoperability, aggregated insights, support tools, and visualizations.

The Datathon will launch during New York Climate Week at 9:00 AM EDT, Wednesday, September 21st (signups open any time afterwards). Participants are invited from all over the world who want to contribute to better understanding collective progress toward the Paris Agreements. The Datathon is asynchronous and virtual, and participants have three weeks to complete their projects (see an example project prompt from Carleton staff here).
