The Great Glebe Garage Sale is a popular community event held in the Glebe since 1986. The sale is always the fourth Saturday in May. The in-person sale is back for 2025 and is set to happen on Saturday May 24, 2025 (from 8am to 2pm).

The Great Glebe Garage Sale is more than just a neighborhood tradition—it’s a grassroots model of sustainability and climate justice in action. By fostering a circular economy through the reuse and redistribution of household goods, the event actively reduces waste and challenges the throwaway culture of consumerism. Residents and merchants alike participate in an informal but impactful system of redistribution, ensuring that items find new life instead of ending up in landfills.
At the same time, the sale strengthens local community bonds, demonstrating how collective action—whether in sustainable consumption or mutual aid—can shape resilient neighborhoods.

Glebe residents are the primary vendors selling their stuff from their front lawns, driveways and porches. Glebe merchants also hold a huge sidewalk sale. Collectively they make one giant event that has become an annual community festival attracting thousands of people to the neighbourhood. From the start of the Great Glebe Garage Sale, the Glebe Community Association has encouraged everyone to voluntarily donate some of their proceeds to the Ottawa Food Bank. As a charitable organization, the Ottawa Food Bank will issue tax receipts for donations.
