- When is the best time to do the internship?

The internship is beneficial at any time. However, some may find it beneficial to have the internship at the end of their studies as a way to transition into the workforce. In all cases, it is recommended that you speak with your academic supervisor to determine the best time to engage in the CLUE internship.
- Can I work for the industry partner after I complete the internship?

Of course, but you must make sure that your external employment does not extend the time it takes to complete your degree.
- What does the end of placement workshop presentation require?
-
It requires you to produce a presentation as part of the end of placement workshop on some element of your internship that represents a significant learning outcome for you. This may or may not include specific elements from your written report.
- What does the job exit written report entail?

Student has to file a written report that describes the placement:
- The overall organization and presentation of the report is clear and effective.
- Grammar, style and citation/reference formats are accurate and appropriate.
- Establishes the organizational context (including reporting structure, hour of work, etc.) the purpose and nature of work.
- Indicates the kinds of work undertaken during the work term, including the identification of specific tasks, analyzes the contributions of the student to that work and assesses the learning experience.
- Effectively relates the work experience to the student’s academic studies.
- Identifies the student’s challenges and accomplishments.
- Analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of the work experience and makes suggestions to improve the experience.
- What impact will the internship have on my ability to do research?

The internship will have no impact on your ability to do research in any area. However, please be aware that you may not be able to use proprietary industry partner intellectual property provided or created as part of your internship.
- What if I don’t get placed?

Our goal is to ensure every student gets a placement. However, should you not get a placement after two rounds, we will work with you detemine the impediments to your success and guide you accordingly. We can also defer your placement to another term.
- How much do I get paid and what are the hours?

The internship stipend is $12,000. Internships can be taken as full time over 16 weeks or 10 hrs/wk over 52 weeks.
- How do I know if I was hired and by whom?
-
Students and employers will receive a formal placement letter (email).
- Where do I find the job listings?

Students in the CLUE program will be contacted with a list of job listings at the beginning of each placement round.
- Why do I interview at 3 companies?
-
There are 3 key reasons; 1) To maximize your opportunities to be chosen and to receive a placement. 2) To gain interviewing skills and increase your self confidence in these situations. 3) To gain an appreciation of the trends in the competencies favored by industry.

We can support graduate students from Carleton University, Queen’s University and University of Ontario Institute of Technology. Please contact the principal investigator for more information.
