Funding Value and Duration
Partner contribution starts at $7,500 per internship unit (4-6 months), which results in a $15,000 research award. Of the $15,000 award, the intern will receive a minimum $10,000 stipend/salary.
If a project has 6 or more internship units with 3 or more interns, it is possible for the partner organization to contribute $6,000 per internship unit instead. This will receive a $13,300 research award with a $10,000 minimum stipend to the intern.
Opportunity
Mitacs Accelerate is Canada’s premiere research internship program. It connects companies with over 50 research-based universities through graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, who apply their specialized expertise to business challenges. Interns transfer their skills from theory to real-world application, while the companies gain a competitive advantage by accessing high-quality research expertise.
Open to all disciplines and industry sectors, projects can span a wide range of areas, including manufacturing, technical innovation, business processes, IT, social sciences, design, and more.

Additional Information
Due to changes in the federal funding landscape and unique situations across several provinces, institutions are being impacted by Mitacs funding constraints. In Ontario, there will be a significant reduction of available funding in 2024-2025 for the Accelerate program, which includes the joint Mitacs applications with the Tri-Council Agencies.
