Improving Risk Management through Data and Digital Tools

Abstract:

Canadian Food Inspection Agency is a science-based regulatory organization dedicated to safeguarding food, animals and plants for the health and well-being of Canada’s people, environment and economy. The recent technological revolution and the resulting digitization of global supply chain have presented an unique opportunity for the Agency to launch several data-related initiatives to gather intelligence and effectively manage emerging risks. These include the establishment of Canadian Food Safety Information Network and Integrated Risk Management. Details of these initiatives, as well as challenges and further opportunities to leverage principles of data science will be discussed.

Bio:

Jae-Jin is currently Manager of Data Analytics and Modelling team at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, which she joined in 2018. Prior to entering the public service, she was manager of clinical research program at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and taught a course on human perception in the department of psychology at Carleton. She holds a Ph.D. in behavioural neuroscience from McGill.
