Stephen Jou: Catching Bad Guys with Math

Stephan Jou is CTO of Interset, a leading edge cybersecurity company that uses machine learning and behavioral analytics to provide unprecedented insight into how corporate intellectual property is being attacked, moved, shared, and utilized.
Jou was a Technical Architect, Research Staff Member and Sr. Manager at IBM’s Business Analytics Office of the CTO. In his career at Cognos and IBM, he has architected and led the development of over ten 1.0 Cognos and IBM products in the areas of cloud computing, mobile, visualization, semantic search, data mining, and neural networks. A frequent speaker and author, Stephan recently contributed to the Verizon 2015 Data Breach Investigation Report on the use of data science for Insider Threat.
Jou holds a M.Sc. in Computational Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering, and a dual B.Sc. in Computer Science and Human Physiology, all from the University of Toronto. He has held advisory positions on NSERC Strategic Networks and is involved in setting goals for NSERC Strategic Research Grant research topics in the areas of analytics and security.
