One of the most requested features for the new departmental printing fleet was a secure way to print sensitive materials. Well, we’re happy to introduce a new printing option called “Confidential Printing”, which is now available and mapped to all staff and faculty CUNET computers!

In a standard printing environment, jobs sent to the printer are immediately printed. If the printed material is forgotten it not only wastes ink and paper, but presents a security risk if the material was sensitive or confidential.

The Confidential Printing helps avoid these issues by putting all submitted print jobs on hold until the submitter authenticates themselves at the printer and releases the print jobs. Print jobs will be held in a queue for 12 hours. This service is available on both Mac and PC.

Confidential Printing offers:

  • Secure printing – sensitive jobs will not sit uncollected on the printer. Jobs only print when released by the user at the printer. Authentication can be done by swiping your Campus Card, entering your MyCarletonOne credentials, or entering your printer specific UserID and PIN.
  • Follow-Me printing – Rather than printing to a specific printer, Confidential Printing provides a roaming print solution where users can release their print job at any departmental device.
  • Reduced wastage – no more uncollected jobs. No wasted paper or toner.

The Confidential Printing queue should already be on your list of accessible printers when you log in to a Carleton computer. All the usual print options (single/double sided, B&W/Colour, etc.) still work.

For instructions on how to use Confidential Printing, see our printing page.
