Fatima Asad is a first-year Master’s student in the Health: Science Technology and Policy (HSTP) program at Carleton University. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and Mental Health (Honours). In the past, she has worked on projects examining the quality of mental health in vulnerable populations. Fatima’s desire to better understand the health conditions and challenges faced by individuals living in Canada has led her to join and work with the Spatial Determinants of Health Lab.

Her work in the Spatial Determinants of Health Lab focuses on creating an interactive, web-based data mapping tool that describes measures of health status, health service use, and the social determinants of health across rural and remote areas in Canada. In the future, Fatima hopes to work in healthy policy where she can improve the quality of health for under-represented communities and vulnerable populations in Canada.
