Contract Instructor Opportunities Fall/Winter 2024-25

Pursuant to Article 16 of the CUPE 4600 Unit 2 Collective Agreement, applications are invited from members of the CUPE 4600-2 bargaining unit and other interested persons to teach the following Department of English Language & Literature courses during the 2024/25 Fall/Winter Term.
- ENGL 1609 (0.5 credit): Introduction to Drama Studies (Fall Term)

An introduction to drama studies, combining attention to theatre history, conventions, and devices, with attention to theatrical practice, and interpretation of selected dramatic texts. Students will develop a vocabulary for speaking and writing with confidence about theatrical productions, theatre practice, and dramatic texts.
Lectures three hours a week.
Required Academic Qualifications and Skills: Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in the appropriate discipline. Candidates must demonstrate research and/or teaching experience in the subject area of drama studies.
Teaching Competence: Candidates must have university-level experience with teaching lecture courses.
Other Relevant Experience: Candidates should have recent scholarly publications (within the last 5 years) in English literary studies and should have recent theatrical experience within the last 5 years in staging plays (directing, stage managing, or acting).

- ENGL 3105A (0.5 credit): History of Literary Theory (Winter Term)

Introduction of ideas about literature, aesthetics, authorship, and readership as these have circulated in periods before the twentieth century.
Lectures three hours a week.
Required Academic Qualifications and Skills: Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in the appropriate discipline.
Teaching Competence: Candidates must demonstrate evidence of teaching experience in literary theory and criticism.
Other Relevant Experience: Candidates should have scholarly publications, which demonstrate proficiency and knowledge of literary and cultural theory.

- ENGL 4609 (0.5 credit): Global Stages and Theories / ENGL 5900 (0.5 credit): Selected Topic in English Studies I (Fall Term)

An advanced study of dramatic texts from transnational, postcolonial, or European contexts. This course will offer sustained attention to specific theatre traditions, theatrical practice, and interpretation of texts.
Topic may vary from year to year.
Seminar or lecture three hours a week.
Required Academic Qualifications and Skills: Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in the appropriate discipline.
Teaching Competence: Candidates must demonstrate previous teaching experience in the subject area.
Other Relevant Experience: Candidates should have recent scholarly publications and/or research in the subject area.
