Dr. Hu is leading the Food Analytical Chemistry and Technology (FACT) Laboratory at Carleton University. Her lab aims to develop and apply advanced analytical chemistry technologies to solve challenging and emerging issues faced by the agri-food industry. The specific research areas include: 1) the development of point-of-need rapid screening sensors for food integrity (i.e., food fraud, safety and quality) issues; 2) the advancement of instrumental methods for better characterization and fingerprinting of food chemical composition to identify novel food markers for food integrity issues; 3) the integration of novel analytical methods and advanced data processing and information sharing strategies to achieve smart food analysis and traceability; and 4) application of metabolomics and bioinformatics to systematically investigate food microorganisms and food toxicology. The details of her research program is available on the Research page.
