Peter Leland joined Carleton University on May 9, 2022 as Executive Director of the Office of Risk Management.
Peter comes to Carleton with almost two decades of experience in the risk management, environmental health and safety, emergency management and insurance fields. Prior to coming to Carleton, he was with Babcock Canada Inc., a global company that serves a diverse client base in the aerospace and defence industries. He was responsible for developing and implementing its enterprise risk management framework to meet the diverse needs of the company. He managed operational risk management functions including quality assurance, organizational excellence, business continuity, and health and safety.
Previously, he worked at Algonquin College and Ikea Canada where he was instrumental in establishing their risk management programs and frameworks. He also managed insurance portfolios, related to property and liability management.
Throughout his career, Peter’s roles have been collaborative in nature and customer focused. He has managed teams and worked closely with senior leadership to ensure the best outcomes are achieved. He has several professional designations, including for Enterprise Risk Management, as well as the Canadian Risk Manager certification. Peter holds a Bachelor of Anthropology from the University of New Brunswick.
